in your child's French education, as well as some helpful tools and links. Together, we can develop a mutually supportive framework to foster

your child's success in the FSL program!

Ontario FSL Curriculum: This is the Ministry of Education's website. Click the "pdf Format" to open the curriculum document. Here you will find the educational guidelines, framework, and expectations for learning French as a second language. This is an important document to read and understand in order to better communicate with you child and their teacher about their learning.

FSL Homework Toolbox: This website provides help for parents with children in French Immersion. There are resources to enrich student learning and to help parents assist students with the program. Includes audio and video resources, instructional strategies, reference guides, a list of learning websites and general tips for learning French.

Canadian Parents for French: This website provides information about opportunities available for student to further develop and use their French. Use the menu at the top of the page to navigate the site. Helpful sections include "Activities" (for information about opportunities) and "FSL Resources" (for tools for students and parents).  

Voilà Learning: This website is run by an Ed-Tech organization. If your school board is registered, it can provide free online tutoring and other assistance with language learning. Select "Virtual Campus" to access the tutoring. There are other resources and help available through this website.

 

TFO: This website provides educational and cultural content in French. A variety of videos are available for all ages. This is a great tool for listening and oral language skill development.

 

Reading A to Z in French: On this website, there are lots of helpful resources for younger French students to help with reading and language skills (high frequency word books/assessments, leveled reading, common word flashcards etc.) Both fiction and nonfiction titles are available at various levels.

 

Biblio Virtuelle: Explore Ontario through both current and historic content (digital archives, photographs, books, videos, and blog posts). Good for research/inquiry, and developing reading, listening and oral language skills.

 

French Street: This website helps promote and enhance French learning by supporting students, parents and teachers with information about French activities and programs. These opportunities can provide students with an authentic French experience.

News in Slow French: This is a website and an app that allows students to choose a level of French and listen to weekly podcasts and audio clips. Students can explore grammar, expressions and pronunciation in an authentic way. The slow pace allows students to develop better listening skills and develops confidence. Select and level and start listening!

Club Optimiste francophone de Durham: This website provides information regarding tutoring and Summer camps. With their Golden Rule as "to communicate in French at all times", these camps are a great way to give your child an authentic experience to speak French and meet new friends! 

Indigo: The Indigo website has a fantastic list of books for each grade level in the French Immersion program. Click the icon to the left to visit the website, and select the grade from the list on the left-hand side to see all of the recommended books! These books are recommended by students. Try looking up the titles on Amazon!
